Bombay Sapphire Gin

The triple distilled Bombay gin brand has ten ingredients: almond, lemon peel, liquorice, juniper berries, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb, and grains of paradise. The ten botanicals are used to flavor the alcohol vapors as they pass through the distillation process and give the gin a more floral aroma more akin to G'Vine than a London dry. Bombay Sapphire Bottle The process of infusing the vapors with the ten botanicals allows Bombay Sapphire to stand out with subtle notes of flavor without being overly burned by them. Bombay Sapphire has had an aggressive marketing campaign along its journey to the top of the mass marketed brands.

History

Launched in 1987 by Grand Metropolitan P.L.C., Bombay Sapphire is now distributed by Bacardi. The $22-billion merger of Guinness P.L.C. and Grand Metropolitan P.L.C. in 1997 resulted in the acquisition of Bombay Sapphire by Bacardi in 1998.1)

Bombay Sapphire's marketing has worked wonders, the sapphire bottle, complete with likeness of Queen Victoria symbolizes the British Raj in India was a fictional creation and the brand has no actual ties to India or their heritage.

Under the ownership of Bacardi, Bombay Sapphire launched a new marketing initiative, the Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass Competition. The competition is aimed at emerging designers, with the goal of annually finding a new design of glass to market beside Bombay Sapphire. The effort is largely credited with increasing Bombay Sapphire's quality in the eyes of consumers, along with promoting the brand's image as a sophisticated, elegant drink.2)
